Looks great! I've build several of these and you might need a spray guard where the screen enters the pipe. As algae grows water will start squirting in all directions. I've migrated to horizontal ATS's. They might not be as efficient, but they don't clog and you can go without cleaning them for quite a while if you want to. Your style will need to be cleaned at least once a week when the algae is growing or they will clog.

yes I'm definately going to build a screen for it, I'm also going to open the slit abit more as well
An easy fix for a splash guard is to cut about 5" of the bottom of a gallon ziploc freezer bag and then cut up the side seams - then just lay over the top. It will work in a pinch and just replace it every couple weeks.

As GeoSquid said. I built that style and ended up going back to my UAS style as it just kept spraying everywhere and clogging. I built a floating UAS and it so far is great.
Do you have any pics of your DIY UAS floating scrubber? Do they work as well? I can't believe the price of "commercial" scrubber. Hundreds of dollars for light water and screen!

How is this setup working for you, I'm about to do the exact same thing. I'm waiting on the mesh and light to be delivered.
What light did you ultimately get?

it was working brill nitrates and phosphates reduced very nicely, I turned it off line for a week while I installed a filter roller, and my sand started getting hair algae so it was definately keeping the nutrients back. its very simple but works a treat, ive got the tunze refugium light now as its easier but I had a horticultural gro bulb before which grew cheato and algae very quickly
