SO for the update....I put them in a bowl in a citric acid and I made a really delicious looking pink lemonade from the coralline fading off. I don't have a quality wire brush on hand, so I couldn't really get all the plated coralline off, but I really focused on cleaning it all and just making sure the holes on the guard were clear.

I put it back on with the same schedule as before - so it was 100% reef crest - and it was so powerful it knocked my rock work over....so, I guess it worked!!!! haha. And I got some birds nest frags from the tumble.

Now it's down to 60% and blowing like crazy, so I put pump two in the mix.

I think, more than anything, the holes in the guard were just grown over so it wasn't getting enough water in.

I use old toothbrushes. I use them to clean a lot of different things and they work great and they're small enough to get into the little spots.
