Im sure this question has been asked, answered, and beaten to complete death in some way shape or form a million times but just to make myself feel better ill ask your guys experiences.

I am running a mixed reef at the moment, trying to convert to mainly sps slowly when equipment is affordable on my budget. I lost a Ice Fire Echinata the other day, completely bleached. Everything else is growing, doing well and colored up nicely. It grew nicely for the first two months, then all of a sudden just up and bleached. Might have been a alkalinity swing...idk I cant really put my finger on it.

Do you guys just have colonies or frags that straight up die with no explanation or reason?

Is this a common thing in the acro ball game or am I just too new to figure out what the heck happened?

I looked for pests, tested my water, even checked the par it was at, even tho it was low (210) it should have just browned and stayed alive right?

I guess I just hate not having a definitive answer as to what I did wrong, or didn't do at all?

With that said, just wondering overall, do you experienced reefers have stuff die on you for no reason? If so what was it and how did it happen?

Yes sad to say some things just do die and it has nothing to do with your tank conditions but perhaps what was wrong with naturally.

I think it happens no matter what a person is keeping sometimes. I have had fish die for no reason, corals, inverts, etc.....drives me crazy trying to figure it out at times.
I feel your pain :squigglemouth:

Yup, it happens. One time in particular, I had a 3 year old birds nest, probably my favorite, just up and bleached in one day. Beautiful one day and just a white rock the next? I did save a 1/2" tip that was alive still and it's now a good sized frag. Can't answer your question, but it seems to me it happens to even the best of them. I've seen posts where people say, "I've had it, I'm sticking with softies or LPS."

It happens in the ocean too. There is a reason but we can't always figure out why or it's beyond anything we are capable of fixing or controlling.
