Does using carbon kills bristleworm and pineapple sponges? I don't want to kill them and my water is smelling really bad so little confused.

So pinapple sponges will be safe? I know it clears water but my lfs is saying it can kill sponges

This is definitely not an issue. I don't know why they would ever say that. Having extremely clean water could kill sponges due to lack of food, but using some carbon won't clean the water enough to cause that.

No effect on them and carbon would indeed reduce both odors and any discoloration of water

Pineapple sponges are not long lives as they dwell off silicates often associated with new rock, sand, tap water and expired Di Resin cartridges which seep silica.
