So I'm looking at adding a doser to my setup. I currently have an Apex, so naturally the DOS came to mind. I'm also considering the GHL 2.1. My question is, is it better to have one integrated with your controller or one that is stand alone?

If its integrated, its obviously a lot easier and nicer to use. On the other hand how often do you need to do complex programming, so does this actually matter much?

For stand alone, I like the idea because I now have two computers actually watching what the doser is doing. If the doser goes rogue, the Apex should be able to notice that via the pH and shut it off. In the case of an integrated doser, only a single system would have to go rogue for the doser to nuke the tank.

Not necessarily here to recommend stand alone over integrated, but I too have an Apex but use the GHL dosers, albeit the older versions. I love GHL dosers - the things are rock solid. In all honesty, I had my setup prior to the Apex dosers coming out, but I do like having seperate systems.

The whole 'all eggs in one basket' thing does scare me a little. As you pointed out, I really don't fiddle with the dosers once they were dialed in. Just my opinion and I'm sure others will differ.

I have my dosers separate I have 3 GHL dosers and a Profilux but keep them separate as I am always adjusting dosing amounts based on testing and it is easy to adjust the doser from the phone app. The controller just keeps doing what task’s I have set for it to do without contain adjustments.
