Doser - how does it work (well)?

I've just ordered a GHL Doser, with delivery tomorrow, but my question is not GHL specific.

What is needed to make a doser work? I don't mean configuring the software, but best practices for example on how it need to be positioned in relation to the additives and the sump:
* when it pumps up the additive, how does it take into account any air in the intake tubing?
* does it get rid of the fluids in the output tubing? If not, how can you know how much fluid will actually get in the sump (e.g. you configure a pump for 5 ml per day, but the total volume of the tubing from the doser to the sump is 20ml)

Trying to have it set up 1st time right, without overdosing due to necessary experimenting. Thanks.

I just setup a Kamoer dosing pump yesterday and the water stays in the output line and only releases .6ml per dose in my case. I'm kind of surprised the water stays in the output line so well and doesn't leak out, but so far so good. I'll do a test later on my Alk to make sure. I don't have the GHL, but with the Kamoer you prime the whole line and run a calibration test before you start dosing. It's all done from within the software.

I have the Jebao doser with 4 pumps

1.) After you calibrate it, I manually pumped until it got all of the air out
2.) Mine maintains the fluids in the line

I have the Kamoer F4 Pro and the liquid stays in the lines, I have the output going into the return area of my sump. You first manually pump the air out of the lines then use a graduated cylinder to calibrate it.
