Hi,

i have a 100% SPS system, 1 year old, I always had undetectable N and P without any issu, always had great growth and color. I recently had a hight alk problem, with my low nutrient, i lost color and growth seemed to be slowed.

After looking around, i saw people having some success with dosing KNO3. I started that to help getting some N in my system.

I'm in the process of switching to AF Sea Salt, once that is done, i will introduce Ca-KH-Mg-ReefMineral. and once that is done, i will dose AVBE.

Can i continue dosing KNO3 once i use AVBE or other AF product ?

thanks

david

I would first check out the guide and select what type of system you want to run .

http://aquaforest.eu/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Aquaforest_Products-Guide_EN_RGB.pdf

With all the SPS system you have I would suggest the full probiotic method. Aquaforest makes 2 products when dosed together will deal with Phosphates and Nitrates. That is Pro Bio s and NP Pro. They are used together.

The guide is very helpful!

Hi, thx, i already been through that documentation. i decided not to go with Probio yet, i will eventually, but not now. I say that and i have my box of probio salt... :p
I feel those probio, np pro are for the system with higher bioload and in my case nutrient are already on the low side, i have a low-med fish load. I would use that in a few months once my fishes get bigger or if i increase my bioload.

thx!

First thing....its a beautiful reef.
Second you can use that with Energy ,Build and vitamin but dont dose with amino. The other AF products are fine.

why no amino ? i'm currently using the FM Ultra amin. i don't see any issue. Amino acid and NO3 are quite different in their role in metabolism. i might be wrong here, i don't want to argue, just understand :)

No no there nothing about argument. I always learn. If you add amino still it will be converted into NO3 finally. When you add more to that then suddenly it will increase the load which can destabilize the system. The AF amino is pretty strong too so to start with I will not start both together.

got it! thx

You are an engineer indeed, or who else will put the AFS on the top of light rail to hide cord????:D:D:D:D

i hate it there... it's because of my tank cover that i cant place it on the side... gonna figure something for this... each time i look at my tank.. its what i see first, i stick to details .. sight!!! :P

That was my understanding as well. I am gradually switching over to AF but I have always had very low NO3 and had to do something to maintain PO4 as reasonable levels. I now use the stacked canister method - zeo, carbon and phos minus which seems to be working but sounds like you have the nutrients side of things sorted. I would maybe cut back on the NO3 dosing when you start ABVE and just watch colours - if they fade too much start bumping up the NO3 - I don't see adding NO3 any different to a fish taking a poo in your tank.
