So I have a neon dottyback who happens to be very laid back, no problems, doesn't bother anything. Now temptation rears its ugly head. I really like the color of the strawberry dottyback. They have a small one at the only LFS near me which I've been watching for several weeks, Its in with neon gobies and doesn't bother anybody. Has anybody had any success with two in the same tank? I've got a 65g with rock all up the back wall.

They usually don't do well with fish that are there shape. My sunrise or sunset what ever it is bullys all new fish

I have a purple pseudocromis that used to get along with fish. Now it kills every fish near it. I tried a sunset dottyback because it says on la that it can stand its own against a fish twice its size, well that wasnt the case.

I think the neons are a bit more laid back. I had one that never bothered anything. Right now I have a purple dotty and a springeri in my 200g DD. Keep in mind thats only a 4 foot tank. No issues whatsoever with either one. Both model citizens. Rarely interact with each other. Neither seems to have set up shop anywhere though which I feel is odd. They both just continuously roam the entire tank.

So far It looks like I might have a 33% chance of success. James what size tank did you have them in? Did you have a lot of rock?

So should I wait 30 days to simulate a proper quarantine or do you want the truth and the potentially gory details now?

Nothing happened. Everybody seems happy so far. Nobody pays too much attention to anybody. At this point they have different behavior In the tank. The neon dottyback spends most of Its time hunting In and out of the rockwork In the bottom third of the tank and the purple pretty much hangs In the water column In the right corner of the tank, a trait which would annoy me if I only had room for a few fish. Things may change as the purple gets more comfortable in the tank. We shall see what the future brings. (hopefully no pestilence from my reckless behavior) Oh, I added a yellow fang blenny at the same time, an interesting fish which spends most of its time hunting the surface of the rocks, but rarely inside the rockwork. It swims in a halting fashion stopping to inspect something on the rocks and then picking it off. So far it hasn't taken any frozen, flake or pellet from what I can tell. All's good in the neighborhood

Just to follow up. So everybody In the tank are relatively happy. The only aggression Is the clark clown doing a little chasing., nothing too bad and the coral beauty angel charging the neon dottyback every once in a while. The dottybacks don't seem to mind each other at all. Everything Is going pretty good up until 3 days ago when the neon dottyback is a no show at feeding time, haven't seem it since. I've got a green pistol shrimp and a small emerald crab, neither of which I've seen since putting them in the tank. Wondering if the pistol got him. It sucks because that neon had a great temperament.

So 10 days ago the neon disappeared. Today I went to clean the filter pad and there he Is flopping around. I had checked the overflow 4 or 5 times for him but didn't see him. I've got my old tank right next to it so its kind of hard to see in it. I put him back into the main tank and haven't seen him since. Ring the bell its round two.

Is this a dottyback? Looks like a pseudo to me. Arnt dottys a bit thinner and elongated?
