Dwarf Angelfishes

In years past, when I was just keeping fish, I used to house two dwarf angels at a time. My favorite combination was a flame angel and a coral beauty angel. (tank size - about 40 gallons)

Your mileage will definitely vary on the individual fish, but a larger tank will definitely help.

I've got 3 in my 80 gallon, a Flame, Coral Beauty and Potter's Angel and they generally go from ignoring each other to swimming/rock scouring together to momentarily asserting pecking order, but nothing close to actual fighting. The Potter's was introduced last and it was a couple days for them to figure out their final pecking order, but again nothing more than flashing fins and maybe a .5 second chase.

I also recently introduced a Lemonpeel Mimic Tang and he got a way more hostile introduction with the Coral Beauty. I took about 2-3 days for the CB to realize he wasn't an angel, and thankfully the tang was quickly able to hold court.

i have a 100g with a multicolor and a potters angel right now, they get along but the potters is dominant over the multicolor and will give a quick chase here and there. i have a flame angel ready to go in, but i've been holding off because i'm afraid of upsetting the apple cart..

i'm not really worried for the flame, he's pretty aggressive, but i've been wrong before about which fish will be the more aggressive. my plan is to use an acclimation box for at least several days and see how that looks and go from there

While I've read a number of cautionary statements concerning aggression amongst dwarf angels, I kept a Flame and an Eibl's in a 75 gallon fish and live rock tank for several years without any problems. They barely seemed to notice each other. Depending on the size of the tank (~50-60 gallons +) and the temperament of the individual fish, I'd say it would be worth a try.

Depends on the fish. I have a 300g. Added a bicolor and Flame Angel and they existed together fine. Then I added a Coral Beauty few months later and it was beaten and bruised badly by my Flame. So bad that it developed pop eye and fins were damaged all around. I had to catch it and put it in the sump to heal for more than a month or so. Eventually I added it back into the display and luckily the Flame didn't attack as ferociously like it did before. So now all 3 are swimming around everywhere. Meanest dwarfs I've had experience with were the Flamebacks and the Flame.

I had a Flame and Potters together in my 210. Introduced them together and they got along great for about 3 years. Came home one day and found the flame had been and was still being badly beaten by the potters. My attempts at capture or other intervention proved futile so I let things run it course. Next day all aggression had subsided and the flame recovered to his usual self in short time. Never did I know the cause of the upset just glad it worked out the way it did.
I currently have a coral beauty and cherub together, even added the cherub well after the coral beauty was established and have had zero issues so far.

I have a flameback now and it kills every new fish I’m out in the tank. He’s so healthy though and I dont want to get rid of him but I don’t know what to do. My first flameback I got from the store didn’t eat for a month then died, this one eats everything but is the most aggressive fish I’ve had
