Good morning everyone, I'm trying to understand why my tank absorbs so much more alkalinity then Calcium, and magnesium. Now I know magnesium is more there to stabilize the Alk and Calcium. So I dont expect swings from this. Now. ALK I'm dosing using ESV 2part at about 18 to 20 ML everyday using my trident and dos. Cal I was high and stopped dosing to bring the levels down a bit. I was at 520ish. Down to about 483 now. I continue to dose alk.

What I have noticed is that I am getting growth from my SPS but not seeing the calcium depletion like I am with the alkalinity. I am by far, no where close to a balance there.

My current levels will be posted as a screen Scot from my trident. And I have checked these numbers using a hanna test kits.

Any links that can explain this would be greatly appreciated

There are some minor thing that impact the balance, but most often it is either water changes with a mix that doesn’t match the tank, or mismeasurements and/misunderstanding of what the demand ratio is expected to be.

The article in the next post details the reasons.
