My return pump has just failed. What does everyone recommend that is good quality but not an insane amount of money? Don’t have a lot of time to search my own reviews so recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

How much gph do you need? You could always go with a cheaper Jeabo pump, or maybe an Eheim pump until you can save up for something reliable like a varios or vectra.

Laguna Max Flo or Fluval SP series are long lived, inexpensive and reliable pumps. You won't find anything more reliable at any price.

What size tank is it? And is this for a sump right under the tank or a basement sump?

For what it’s worth, after I had a return pump failure several years ago I replaced it with two pumps. I got two DC pumps that could handle about 75% of my normal flow rate alone and I operate them at a little less than full power. That way they were a bit less expensive than two pumps that could handle 100% of my normal flow rate alone, but if one pump fails I can bump the other one up to 100%. Even though I’ll have a bit less flow then normal it will still be plenty for the tank to survive until I can repair or replace the failed pump.

I also went so far as to plug the two pumps into different electrical circuits. So it one GFCI trips or one circuit fails the other pump will keep the tank operational.

When I first did this I started with jebao pumps, but I have since upgraded to Neptune COR 20 pumps.

Tank is a 270. Pump was a jebao 12000 return pump that is directly below the tank pumping about 5 ft high with 2 90s. Lasted about 7-8 years.

Love my vectra L1 but that’s expensive. You could do another jebao. Have heard some great things about the Hydor Seltz D.. you could do the 3200 or what I would do is get 2 of the 2400 so you don’t have to run them at 100% and if one fails still have a return that you can use
