I have been scouring the internet for quite some time now trying to figure out what's going on in my Fluval EVO aquarium. It's been up for about 6 months now, and overall everything is doing OK for the most part...HOWEVER, I have this strange encrusting type of brown algae on my rocks. Snails don't touch it. Hermits don't touch it. It can't be blown off with a turkey baster, but when I take my fingernail to it, it breaks off into small pieces/dust. I found a similar thread here, but never got a good answer as to what is it or how to get rid of it.
Here are my parameters:
Salinity 1.025
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 10ppm
Temperature is 79 during the day, 78 at night.
I should also note that I have the stock lid, and also have the feeder door covered (Diamond Goby will jump to his death otherwise). In that thread above, they mention gas exchange...could that possibly be what's going on here? Are there other symptoms of poor gas exchange? Can corals be affected in any way?
