Euphyllia-attacking flatworms??

Okay so, FW dip just scared me. I’ll stick with the Bayer dip. There definitely aren’t any fish/ invert options appropriate to my tank size that will do the job? I’ve never medicated anything before and it’s scaring me, especially since I have a neon yellow hammer that I really love and was a pretty penny. I don’t want to hurt that or my bicolor torch

@nex64 @Chefwheredyougo ! Do you know if corals can be dipped in freshwater??
I've done my euphyllia in them before, but it was literally less than a minute. They were ****** off for a few hours, but they came back fine. I did it with acans the same amount of time and they never came back. So, I don't want to recommend it just based off MY experience.

Of course you can freshwater dip corals.
However, SPS you have to be a little more careful with than regular softies cause they can get irritated easily and usually don’t respond too well.

With Euphlyllia I usually opt not to moving them and dipping them because they are touchy specimen as well. Ive lost several euphyllia to BJD just simply by moving them from one spot to the tank to the other. When they like a spot with perfect flow; they tend to want to stay there.

Look into a 6line and other wrasse species. They may be buttholes but they serve a purpose

Yeah, euphyllia are very sensitive which is scaring me. All of my pieces are removable though as I have either secured them with epoxy or shoved the dead parts of a branching species into a hole, and I’ll be able to put them back exactly where I took them from. This is the only reason I’m considering a dip at all. I don’t feel comfortable dosing the whole tank because I do have sps, gonis, scoldys, toadstools, zoas, shrooms, xenia, etc in there which are unaffected by the flatworms but may respond badly to medication, then there’s the fish and inverts I’m worried about. If a snail dies from medication, I won’t notice until it fouls the tank which is no bueno

The wrasse sounds like a good idea @TriggerFinger thanks! Do they jump though? If they do, I’m going to need to hold off on it until I can buy/ make a good lid to hold it in
I’ve never had one before but I think all wrasses are prone to be jumpers. Since the pink streak is so tiny you would need a pretty fine mesh. I wouldn’t trust egg crate for a tiny fish.

I’ve never found euphyllia to be touchy at all.... ever in over 10 years and all kinds kept.
acans and large polyps like Acanthophyllia respond the worst IME.
I’ve always heavy dipped EVERYTHING in Bayer and never once lost a single coral from it.

I’ll also say that you can’t just get BJD from moving the coral and a change in flow. It was likely already present as it’s a bacterial infection.

As for treating the whole tank, you can use FWE just fine without an issues, I’ve done 5x the instructed dose with no effects to anything other than starfish (echinderms are more sensitive to it than any coral or fish) nems, SPS, LPS, clam all perfectly fine

Maybe the next 10 years you can focus on learning to identify polyclad flatworms ;)

And I guess your euphyllia are just bullet proof, or maybe just the common ones.

I’ve had problems with pumpkin flatworms. Pinkish and shaped kind of likes a tooth .
Flatworm exit works good but gotta follow up. Water change and carbon after treatment. Or natural and long term prevention, wrasseS!!

My melanurus hasn't tried jumping. I do have a screen over the top, but remove it for hours when doing maintenance. He's good at picking frags clean of any pests. I dip anyway, but if something were to get through he'll make short work of it

Or maybe you could learn not to be rude and disrespectful because you don’t agree with someone?
I have no time for people like you.

I’ve had good results with FWE dosing the whole tank. Just be ready to run carbon and do a nice water change. Something else I noticed is an iodine bath will make flatworms come right off, and I’ve heard conjecture that it may also help tissue healing for lps. There’s a lot more experienced reefers than me here and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone recommend this... just noticed it worked when I was dipping corals before putting them in my tank.

Did manual removal just to see, all of these came off of only one colony...

Stating the obvious buddy :)

Don’t expect to disagree with someone and not get called out on your BS.
