This weekend someone gave me 100 gallon tank and stand. I also bought about 65 pounds of beautiful live rock. Here's my question, if I use that live rock, some live sand, and a decent hob protein skimmer, what filtration can I get away with? I thought about 100 gallon canister or two bio wheel 350s, each does 75 gallon. I know where I can get an affordable sump but terrified of drilling. Any advice on running 100 much appreciated.

I have a 65 gallon FOWLR and use a canister filter. Pretty easy maintenance, there are some down sides to using it, where I see a sump is better and more useful. If you are thinking about a reef tank I would get a sump as it is just easier with filtration options and maintenance. If you don't want to drill it, you could get a HOB overflow for the tank.

Is there a recommended hob filter. I used to run bio wheels on my Oscar tank and they kept it clean, that's why I thought 2 of the 75s

I am not too sure about HOB filter. By HOB overflow I mean an overflow box hat is plumped to go into a sump.
I didn't know hob overflow existed. I have a buddy with a sump for sale. Is there a recommended brand or where to get one?
