Started my journey into setting up my first marine tank. Planning on a mixed reef. Been researching and planning over the past couple of months and reading a lot of threads here. Relying on my LFS as well. I went with the Reefer 350 and RSK-300. Waiting to get my RO system setup so I can start filling it up. One question I have is related to filter media. The tank came with 1 filter cup and 1 media bag. Do you put the media bag inside the cup or use them separately? I plan on using carbon but not sure what other type media I should use. Looking for insight into how I should utilize both media ports in the sump.

Also need help with my RO water mixing. I purchased (2) 40 gal containers from my well water company. I don't plan on plumbing them together but to use them separately 1 for salt and 1 for fresh obviously. I have a 60ft horizontal path from the container to my tank in addition to the vertical travel out of the container and the vertical jump to the tank. Looking for a combo pump/powerhead to mix the salt and get the water to the tank. Would the Maxi-Jet 1200 be able to support this?

I do plan on building a bench to elevate them but for now they will just be placed on the floor. I plan on just using a hose to syphon water into a bucket if I need to. Once I elevate them I would like to put in a valve on each. What kind of fitting and valve would work best to make this happen?

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to joining the reefing community.

You can do it either way .
Filter floss in the cup will filter out old food and poo.

I dont think the 1200 will work
You want some thing like a danner 1800 or a Eheim 1262 They can both be used underwater or externally. You will want external, when going with a mixing station. Set it up down the road to mix water and move water from 1 container to the other and pump to your tank. 1 pump, 3 uses and no moving the pump.

Valves like ball valves work great. A "Uniseal" is used to attach a pipe to a hole in the container.

This will give you ideas

Oh ya and howdy and welcome
