I honestly think that your issue could be that dry base rock you used. Everyone I've ever heard about using it has continued to have algae issues.

Maybe you should slowly replace it with good live rock?

Never had issue with dry pukani rock. The terrestrial stuff is bad news IMO but the dried stuff out of the ocean is the way to go IMO.

In case anybody doesn't put 2 and 2 together....
It's sold at BRS as "Reef Saver" dry rock. They told me it's something like an ancient reef that was then buried (long ago). They now dig it up, wash and bleach the rock, and sell it.

I actually considered getting some a while back, but decided to just buy from individuals, actual live rock, for less. I did have to scrub some hair algae, a couple aiptasias, and such, but it wasn't bad at all.

I wasn't talking about the stuff that comes out of the ocean that's the same thing as live rock except not technically "live" anymore.

Update on dads brs reef saver rock. Tank is doing great but still in cycle stages.
