Flip's Reef

Here's some pics of what I just did.

2012-12-18_19-59-39_204.jpg

Found a busted impeller and the new one I bought doesn't fit. I had to get crafty with the impeller and make it work. It's running flawlessly now. It's in great shape (especially considering the price I spent on it). :D

There it is running.

"Marvin the ritteri" is getting as happy as them Nemo's are. :D

You can see the MP40 to the left, there.

This bad boy is really showing off now! :D

I haven't secured them yet (the MP40's). I have them set at around 35%, steady stream, right now. Letting everything get adjusted to the new, gentler flow.

That's that! I think I'm done for a little bit... ;)

Salamet!

This build is strikingly similar to this dream I had of my final tank. Really nice man...love it

Wow! Thanks! I love your corner bow too! I used to own a 92g corner bow. It did make me dizzy if I stared at it too long, though. LOL! :D Gorgeous tanks, and space saving.

So, today I just took some readings to make sure things are balancing out.

Ca-440
pH-8.3
Alk-6

I need to bring that alk up, but for now I'm just going to monitor how things do for a couple of days.

I put half a cup of Kalk in the reactor. I'm going to add a few more tsp before I go on vacation this Saturday. It should be fine since the only true Ca sucker is that Squamosa.

Just wanted to check in and say everything's looking great in the most recent pictures! I'm sure things will be all good while you're out on vaca. Enjoy, brotha!

Thanks man! I hope you're right!

So, I just wanted to report a couple of things:

1. A local club member PM'd me on our home board. He wanted to let me know that he had my frags ready. Some of you might know of him from RC as fishcraze. He has some of the nicest corals I've ever seen. I'm getting a small pack from him.

2. My melanarus came out of hiding and just ate a bunch of pellets and flakes! Yay!

3. My fairy wrasse is in the overflow! Boooo!

Going to do a quick water change tonight and try to get my alk a little higher before I go on vacation.

Awesome, looking forward to seeing the new frags. Nice to hear the melanarus is getting comfortable, but sorry to hear about the fairy taking a detour. Good luck getting it out!

I'm back at home, and had enough time to clean the tank just a little. Kiddos had to open their presents, and I'm seriously zonked after all the driving in the snow up in the Midwest! Ugh...

My anthias are missing... I think their either hiding really well, or in the overflow, or worse... may have been eaten by the ritteri. D'oh! I'm hoping for the first two options... I wouldn't be shocked if they were eaten, though. They are blondes. :D (Just kidding)

My fairy is still in the overflow, and I'll get it out of there when I get my new sump built. It's eating and doing fine in there, so I guess it's okay. I'm just going to pull a durso and watch it flush to the sump, when I do get it out of there.

The corals that I do have (all "2" of them) seem to like the new kalk reactor. :D So, that's good. My parameters are good, and I'm getting some new frags on Tuesday.

More to follow!

Yo! Welcome back. Sorry about the anthias, but at least the tank and home are still standing! Still looking forward to seeing the new frags that are coming in.

Today, I went to two buddy's homes to get some frags. They have all been dipped, and placed in their temporary (some permanent) homes. I had to clean the heck out of the tank, so no pictures right now. I do want to list out the corals I bought because honestly... I'll forget. LOL

These, I got from one friend:

1. Green Mako Purple Meridiana
2. Tubs Mystic Blue
3. ORA Red Planet
4. Tyree Ponape Birdsnest
5. Exoticreef Aquamarine Nasuta
6. Pink Catspaw (one my favorite stylos)
7. Steve Alias Blue Tip Staghorn
8. Upscale Blue Polyps Microcladus
9. Naka Pink Lemonade
10. Aussie Strawberry Shortcake
11. Pink Prostrata
12. Exoticreef Strawberry Staghorn
13. Tyree Efflow
14. Marshall Island Purple Monster
15. Green Poccilopora
16. Tyree Grape Purple Monticap
17. Pink Monticap
18. ??? something else (not sure)
19. ??? something else (not sure)

The "???" indicates that there were more corals in the bags than I paid for. I guess that's a benefit of having great locals to buy from. :)

These, I got from another friend:

20. Some kind of green acro with blue tips (the mother colony was very nice)
21. Rainbow Millepora (it's what he was told it is) It wasn't encrusting in his tank, so he gave it to me

Any way... I had to clean the heck out of the tank when I got home. The algae is getting strong on the glass, so I had to razor scrape it on my mag float (the Algae Free Hammerhead is too strong for my tank). The tank is starting to clear up already.

Oh! I do have some pictures of the skimmate in my tank, after the week I was away on vacation... Pretty nice, nasty, stanky stuff! :D

Must be nice to have "those" friends.. ;)

That's some skimmate right there. :)
