I bought this as a Tyree Watermelon frag a couple of years ago. It is now about 3 inches around. I have a couple of local reefers that want to buy a frag. What is the best way to frag this? As you can see it is "lifted up" off of the frag disc. Thanks.

:) Not sure if it will just "snap" off if I put pressure on one side or not. I have never cut one.

Thanks. I want to do this today before I lose my nerve. :) Questions I have are:

1. What should I cut it with? Snips?
2. Do I need a mouth with each frag?
3. Once cut can I apply super glue gel directly to the piece and glue it to a frag disc?

Thanks, Darren

this is not an expert opinion, I mostly do sps, but i would think you would want one eye with each frag. I would cut a pie shape piece to get one eye with the frag so you dont have to cut any more than nescessary i would use snips or coral cutters and you can glue it down when you cut it.

Do you have fragging tools?

I used a razor blade and cut my chalice right where I wanted. I had to use pressure down and not really cut. The pressure down made the cut.

if i were you,I wouldnt frag it,its such a nice looking colonie.
but if you decide to go therw with it i use a dremal to make nice fine cuts.

Dremel from the bottom so the heat does not touch the "skin." Then snap the frag off, This method is much easier on the coral.....

Also, I say FRAG IT and share the wealth :)

BEAUTY!

in the past I've used a dremel with good luck. I ground right down from the top. I've seen it done where the person cut a ring all the way around the colony into squares. the mother will be fine, its the frags that are fragile.

Diamond band saw is the best way I would ever frag another watermelon. Last time I used a dremel it caused the chalice to melt away with a day or 2. Second option for me would be bone cutters.(cheaper too)
