hey yall,
I was thinking about starting a GFO reactor on my tank, but have heard mixed reviews on their effectiveness in a SPS tank. My phosphates are undetectable on a traditional test kit yet in my lab (similar to hanna checker) i get reading of about 0.02-0.03. I have heard that GFO can cause SPS to loose color. I have also heard that SPS can do really well even with high phosphates. On the other side though I was thinking GFO would could help maintain my phosphates where they are now and help prevent a future problem with high phosphates. I want to know from some people with lots of experience growing SPS what their thoughts are on GFO. I am not going to be using it to control algae, as I have none, but merely to help keep phosphates in a manageable range. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!

My thought is that if you have no nuisance algae, and your phosphates are already very low, then why change? SPS needs a little phosphate to grow, just as natural seawater has, but using a product to lower something that doesn't need to be lowered will be just a waste of money.

Your phosphate numbers look good. As long as you aren't having algae troubles then I wouldn't worry about Gfo right now.
