Hey all,

I run a small remodeling company and got into aquarium discussion with a customer. He was in the game a long time but hung it up a few years back. He showed me some pics and then his old equipment, after much back and forth he wouldn’t take no for an answer on giving me his old T5 setup.
Considering building a frag tank in my garage with it, but besides one stamp saying Current on it, I have no idea what this is. Can anyone give me a model number or any info on this? I’m posting a video of it. That’s a standard 6’8 door it’s next to, and has two controls on 2 6 bulb arrays. Thanks for lookin!

I would not use t5 today for a frag tank. The cheapest led would be so much better. As for that on a display tank it is way too skinny for coral. Just end up wanting a wider t5 setup like ati makes.

It is basically the reason it was free. Never cared for that t5 model design.

Was thinking maybe the 12 t5 thing with the reefbrite XHO strips on the sides. Maybe not, figured it was free haha

468 watts of photons.. as long as the ballasts still are working..
Of course your free light might require $240+ in bulbs..or worse..
$360/12
Adding cheap 6500k's in there for a frag tank you can cut bulb costs down at like $5/bulb.
I'll let others decide on the "color" to use..

It would cost about $625 for black boxes, assuming 110w at full and running at about 80w of a bluer spectrum
and assuming photon efficiency of about 75% of the t5ho's
4-5 boxes..
Run them "whiter" and you decrease your cost though still need enough for spread though 4 may be the limit regardless.

It also depends on the size of the tank...
I'd have a hard time trusting any "electronic" power supply older than 5 years btw.
10 cent power capacitors dry up or leak especially if over heated.

YMMV..................

Great points, I appreciate it, I know it works because I used it to grow lotus over the winter, just didn’t know if it had any actual “value”. Seems kinda like a no

Well.. being a freshwater guy I'm not going to judge the value but it's a lot of light in a concentrated area (6x 26) so it def. has value.
Individual ( I'll assume average or better) reflectors, fan cooled for efficiency boost..
Point is long term though that is arguable even in LEd's today.
Cute, back in the day they were called NEPS..

I'm sure you could sell it for $100.. ;)
Strange thing about the world is many "valueless" things have value to someone..
I haven't found anything about ballast replacements though..so it has value till it doesn't work.
No I don't want it. ;)

Anyways t5ho efficiency is good, only delivery, regardless of reflectors, is a bit err inefficient compared to LEd's.
