Can anyone help me with my Goniopora? It’s been acting weird lately... instead of extending it’s polyps like usual it’s been puffing up (see picture). If someone could please shed some light on what’s going on it would be much appreciated!

This can go 2 ways
1 it can just be sulking for some reason and will open back up in a day or 2
2 it will stay like that and slowly start dieing off
How long have you had it
How old is your tank
have you been feeding it ...if not do you broadcast feed your tank
Are your levels stable , alk ,mag , Cal
Also is there any po4 no3 in your tank
Sorry for all the questions but they will help you get the answer your looking for

Tank is 6 months old. I target feed it reef roids twice a week and Red Sea reef code A and B broadcast a few times a week.

SG 1.025, Am 0, Nitrite 0, nitrate 1 ppm, Ca 430, AK 10.9, phosphorus 0.02 ppm

Your levels seem fine
I've 2 , a green and a pink one
The green I've had for over 2 years , I did have 3 but gave one back to lfs as I'm outta space in my tank
I see that yours is on the sand bed , both of mine are up high in my tank and I run radion g4 lights that are set to the SPS channel
So they can definitely take a lot of light
How long has it been sulking for ?
Couple pics if mine , clowns host the green the fools lol

Gonipora is one that lives in shallower water and turbulent water. Good luck they are extremely difficult. They make a gonipowder food for them. Red ones seem to do better in captivity.

My green one has been doing great for months, then it just started to do this out of nowhere.

Have you tried to feed it? Our green goniopora used to do this time to time after feeding but always recovered. I used to chalk it up to it being a tyoe of feeding response. It dodnt happen all the time. I'd just give it time and don't make any adjustments or move the coral.

I have a red one that looked the same. Was on my sand bed at 130 par. Almost died.... Tissue started to pull away. I moved up high in nice flow area, medium... As well as higher light and its back to thriving.... It about a year old.....
