for months I have heard a clicking noise and today I finaly caught it! This super tiny pistol shrimp. Which I believe is the reason my rockscape collapsed this last weekend.
I redid the rockscape so now nothing wiggles and there is no sand under the base rocks, I do have a few pieces of rock that is on hte sand but is not supporting anything. So do I put him back into the tank or get rid of him? He is a neat green color with black stripes.

Throw him in the sump or give him to someone on your local forums, someone always wants those little guys!

my 20 gallon nano doesnt have a fuge or a sump, I have my hob filter box with some LR dont think he would stay there though.

Make sure it is a pistol and not mantis (I believe it is but the picture is small) and put him right back in the tank. I know of no problems other than digging that a pistol shrimp causes. Many people buy them to pair with a shrimp goby.

I'd keep him and get him a shrimp goby friend like steamer said. They are so cool together if they pair up.

deffinatly a pistol shrimp...one big claw one little one. Long antena, since my rock work is no longer on the sand and is on the bottom of the tank with the sand around it I think I will put him back in. What kinds of gobies get along with these and does he have to have a goby to survive? There are no fish in this tank at all, just another mystery crab and there were peppermint shrimp in here but cant find them

Yep definately a Pistol Shrimp. I have one paired with a Yellow Watchman Goby in my tank and haven't had a single problem with it.

prawn gobies pair with pistols, those include (but are not limited to) all watchman morphs (colors), the yasha, i belive the randalli, high fin, and there are several others but i cant think of them right now... i have a 4 inch yellow wachman and about a 2.5-3 in tiger pistol had both since they were super tiny both under an inch... other than moving your sand theres really no disadvantage to having them, they are a great symbiosis and sand sifter. now that you have your base rocks on the bottom glass/acrylic then your tank should be fine. if you do decide to keep him just watch any corals you have on the sandbed as they can be buried and i know this from experience unfortunately

ok he is retemping to the tank water, when should I add a goby? After the shrimp makes a new burrow, hopefully I can find it or will the gobie find the shrimp in this small of a tank? Does the shrimp really need a goby to survive?

The shrimp doesn't need a Goby but you will see the shrimp a whole lot more if you have a Goby with it. If you add a Goby they will find each other.

wholey moses he is snapping in the container I have him in wow is that really loud! Like a rubber band being snapped on a piece of cardboard. Hopefully they have some gobys that like shrimp at fosters and smith. I planned on stopping there in the morning. dont suppose the shrimp can hang out floating around in that container in my tank til tomorrow or will that be ok? Otherwise I do have one of those hang on betta things that hangs inside the tank he could hang out in with some sand and rubble till tomorrow, would that be better or should I just let him go.

as long as the water can flow though and keep oxygenated hell be fine, if the water is stagnant id put him back in... the gobie will find him, mine did and it was really cool to watch them pair up... i had the gobie first and a week later i added the pistol... theyre my favorite thing in the tank to watch... heres a link for you about the pistol and its awesome snapping power Pistol Shrimp - YouTube pretty cool, and they normally do not go for skunk cleaner shrimp this was most likely for demonstration purposes... mine never bothers anyone in the tank, just moves sand...and lots of it
