I have a couple of green chromis that have been happy inhabitants of my 120 for over a year now. I have noticed they have been hiding a lot more in their rock lounge. I am guessing they may have spawned, but I can't see into the area where they are hiding.

The questions I have is: does the male or female watch over their roe? Has anyone ever had luck raising them to full size?

Thanks for the help!

I have no idea, I do t think I've heard of them spawning in captivity before. #reefsquad might know

I've had five in a 120 for 2.5 years and can say I've never seen them spawn. The clowns do every two weeks but not the chromis. Following along because I've wondered why they haven't "paired" up.

I too have never heard of chromis spawning in captivity. Fish starting to hide from the light are often affected by velvet..

I sure hope that's not the case, do you qt all fish? Any new additions?

I have 3 blue/green chromosome that constantly spawn. Typically two would begin swimming next to each other on my sandbed and one will begin to shake very fast for about 5 seconds. Then it stops and I notice a lot of its scales looking weird and out of place then go back to normal in a minute.

This typically happens two hours before lights out. My blue tang likes to jump in the middle of them half of the time since they all typically swing and hang out together.

It is my understanding that planktivorous fish such as chromis, anthias, and some angels are broadcast spawners. So even if they did spawn in home aquaria, they wouldn't be protecting it or even visible.

Has anything changed recently in the tank?
