When I had some green star polyp, I found that they really benefitted in color and general health with regular additions of iodine to the system. Once the iodine became part of my routine, they took off like weeds!

something is wrong and it's not the coral. most people, including me, can't stop this coral from spreading. I frag mine every couple of months. the only time it retracts it's polyps is when the tank goes dark. you may try increasing the lighting.

In our facility, we use Razor LEDs and keep the flow pretty high in the tanks, however, it never directly hits the star polyp. We feed them every day around the same time early morning so they usually open up then. Sorry if this wasn't much help. Good luck!
