In the home aquarium environment, Grey Smooth Hound Sharks should be provided an aquarium that can comfortably support their adult size of approximately 4 feet for female specimens and 3.5 feet for male specimens. They should be provided an aquarium that is at a minimum 4 times the length of the shark, twice the width of the shark and twice the height of the shark, thus this would mean an aquarium similar to 16 feet x 8 feet x 3 feet in size. Young Grey Smooth Hounds can live in aquariums as small as 450 to 500 gallons in size, but will need to be moved to a larger aquarium or pond within 1 to 2 years time.

Found this on google.

Welcome aboard!

I urge you to find something that doesn't have corners if you wish to keep sharks. Rays are ok with it, but, sharks prefer rounded tanks.

Yes, you stand a better chance than most with the size tank you have.

Is this your first foray into marine keeping? If so, please don't attempt sharks or rays. It takes years to properly care for them. At least in my experience and I have bred both rays and sharks (marbles and bamboo cats).

If you can spare the room, find a 8 foot across agriculture pool. They are awesome for sharks. Although a smooth may be a bit big.

Is it difficult to keep a grey smooth hound in a 600 gallon aquarium? It’s 10 feet by 4 feet.

Welcome! Glad you joined. Defer to others on shark, and it sounds like you're already getting opinions from people who seem very familiar.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

A very belated hello and welcome to R2R! Did you ever get a shark? I wish I could have a tank like yours but short of winning the lottery that won’t happen lol. If I had one though it would be the ultimate reef tank! Whether you decided to get a shark or you made it a reef tank I hope you have lots of success!
