Hey guys, I just signed up for the site. I've been reefing since '06 or so. I started with a 46 bowfront, then moved to a 29g biocube, then to a 120. After the 120, i purchased a RR 120, and moved everything to that, and ended up tearing that tank down, and downgrading into another biocube 29 with LEDs. Recently that biocube crashed while I was deployed. I have a 40br in the works now. It's been cycling for about a week with base rock.

There is the biocube in it's prime right before I was deployed

There it is after the crash. I pulled some rock out, but for the most part it was all dead except my massive caulerpa, GHA, and cyano blobs. Softies lived too (of course :\)

and a video demonstrating my beananimal overflow.

Welcome to R2R! That 40b is gonna be sweet! Looking forward to seeing your progress...

Welcome to R2R! I hate to see what happened to your cube that had to hurt! But your new tank looks like it is going to be awesome.

Wow that biocube was awesome. Sucks that it crashed on you. Just curious why did you down grade from the larger tank. I've been thinking about upgrading from my biocube but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Well, I got deployed the last time, and while I was gone, I had pretty much every piece of equipment I had running crap out on me. I decided to downgrade to something more manageable and sumpless so my wife could take care of it for the next time i was gone. My rocks were leaching phosphate really bad, and I had algae problems since that 120 was a move not a new build. Also, I don't really care for the RR tanks, and have had overflows clog before. That's why I built the beananimal style for this 40. I won't ever have to worry about an overflow again.

And ya, it did suck that my tank crashed, but I had a feeling it wasn't going to be good when my wife said she didnt have to empty the skimmer cup for a month. I kinda made peace with it before I came home. I am leaving again in June, but good thing is, I wont have any livestock. I'll just have her ghost feed the rock to build up bacteria. This way I'll cycle the tank for a good 5 months before livestock ever hits it.

Welcome to R2R!

Welcome to R2R. Nice setup!!! Most important....thank you for all you do for our country!!!

Welcome to R2R! 1smile1 Can't wait to see the 40B up and running. The only good part of deploying will be no temptation to rush the cycle. Thank you for serving and best wishes for a safe deployment.

BTW, what branch are you in? It seems like the Marines outnumber every branch of the military on here 2:1, so I'm always looking for some other Army dogs to even out the numbers....

Thanks everyone! And I'm in the Air Force. I guess, I can side with you since we used to be part of the Army! This trip is an easy one. It's more of a TDY. Everyone I talk to says it's more of a vacation than anything haha.

I'll be in Curaçao this time! I plan to visit the SECORE site down there, and talk with those guys. At least here I can get my salt water fix!
