Hello, I am somewhat new to the reefing hobby and i need a little help identifying this coral. The largest polyp is over 1 inch in diameter. They eat the pellet and frozen foods that I feed my fish. The tentacles tell me they are probably palythoa since they resemble eyelashes. They were an ugly brown color when I first got them (on my live rock). Then they started to turn a mixture or bright green, dark green, amd brown. Then they went back to being all brown. And now in less than a day are about half green and half brown. They change color rather quickly. And my lighting hasnt changed. They have not been moved either. The polyps are really big when fully opened! I like them a lot when they are at their greenest! I would lime to know if these appear to be palythoa grandis to anyone? Ive found some pictures of palythoa grandis and some look a little like mine but with more colors. Either way, im dying to know what they are! I like their behavior a lot. But I have a TON of them. And if anyone can tell me how much they are going for id like to sell some. But im afraid my lfs will take advantage of my not knowing what they are and tell me they aremt worth what they really are worth.

They look like brown button polyps but I think they are too big to be b.b. polyps.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

I feel like you have a less colorful version of "Toxic green polyp coral". I have always seen stuff like this called green army polyps, but search results yield little for that name.

Ok this morning when I turned my lights on, I noticed that they are more green now! Now its actually visable in pics so here are some updated pics.

Pic #1 shows the 'greenness'
Pic #2 also shows greenness
Pic #3 is a little different colony though. They have some polyps like the others. But some have a marbled white blended in.

Now, I have no idea if these pics will help to get a better id or not. But i hope so! Better pics are always good!

Again, thanks for taking the time to look! Im excited to be here and will have plenty more questions to follow!

Not grandis, just button polyps. In my area the large ones are hard to find. Anytime the lfs gets any in they always keep them for their displays. They do get up to about an inch across and if happy you'll end up with a lot of polyps in a short time. Grandis have a more clumping nature and the disks generally are rather floppy rather than perfectly round. I have both large button polyps and grandis and the color of the button polyps in my tank seems to depend on the amount of light they receive, brown for low light, green for higher light.
