My graduation is coming up and my parents want me to think of some gifts. I’ve been stuck with the good ole’ $16 microscope for a while and would love an upgrade. I want something that I can see individual cells of something tiny with ease... a high quality microscope. I culture a lot of phytoplankton and it would be cool to be able to check them out through that and such. I’d like to keep it under $200, maybe $300. Cheaper is always better but I know sometimes you pay for what you get. Anybody have good recommendations?

there are cheaper ones that hook up to your computer as well for up close pictures, im sure others can help you out with that. If its just to improve your tank and your parents are paying i say go for an aquarium controller (ie. Hydros control, or Apex etc)

This is the one I have and I like it a lot except the phone adapter is junk I just hold it to the eye piece.

I was thinking of going that route but I hate asking for stuff that expensive. I’d rather just ask for a few ‘smallish’ things if you know what I mean and let them choose.

Okay, that’s the same way that I had set to the side because it looked good. Thank you!

You can buy a £30 mark microscope used and add a phone eyepiece holder as mentioned above. $300 is professional level for those working with it day in day out.

I have a $16 one and $50 one and neither one is good. I culture a lot of phyto. Trying to start up a business selling that and other stuff so it would be used frequently. I’ll look into used ones though, never thought about that.
