Not sure but I think these guys may be a trumpet coral or something along those lines. as you can see they are not in very good condition. I acquired them from someone who no longer wanted them because she couldn't make them look "pretty". I currently have them separated into the hospital tank, I know they have small mouths but when I offered LPS max directly they opened up. Any advice on how I can nurse these guys back to health? Has anyone had luck bringing coal back that was and this type of condition?

Thanks,

Janet

I had a hammer that lost all of its visible tissue. Thought for sure that it was dead. I took the skeleton and threw it in the corner of my tank (low flow) and forgot about it. Figured I would use it as a plug for some zoa's someday. About 2 months later I noticed that it was growing again. about 1 month later it had fully recovered and was making popping out more heads. So long story short, don't give up to soon.

I've put them in a low flow area of the tank. I'm hoping they come back, honestly I think they were starving :-(

Good luck with rehabbing it! I would be careful with target feeding it. The reason I say this is that if you overfeed a coral that is struggling that it can push it over the edge. Please keep us posted with your progress.

How often should I feed them? I put a little LPS Max in the water in the hospital area (feeding them there so theres no food stealing) and swirled it around and just let them eat what they wanted for a few hours then put them back in their spot in the tank. They seem to have puffed up a little more. Just gonna baby them the next few months.

I will keep you posted for sure.

They seem to be responding well to feeding...I'm hopeful they may be on the road to recovery

Not for sure if my trumpet is starting to dye or what. I have had it almost about a month and it been looking like this. It just doesnt look like it did in store. All my other corals are doing great

What are you feeding it?
What is the Alk/CA/Mag?
salinity levels?
Do you use a ATO?
What type of lights do you use?

All above^^^^ but as your existing corals are doing good maybe moving it to a different spot.
Remember it can happen that a coral won't feel home for a while as your numbers might be spot on but the LFS had a lower Salt level, if so that can offset your coral for a few days.

It's OK to not know the ins and outs of reefing, but only to gain experience over time.

I am feeding reef frenzy.
I dont have a test kit for alk ca and mag
Salinity is right at 1.025
I use high out put for lighting.
No i do not use ato.

I have a 20 gallon tank right now

This might be your problem
If you are not testing for the Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium these elements tend to deplete vary fast with a tank with coral, even water changes can't keep up with the demands.
If you don't have the test kits to test these you can bring some of your tank water to your local pet store and ask them to test for Alk2.5/Ca420/Mag1300
And start dosing these elements.

A Auto Top Off helps keep your salinity consistent and less stressful for coral
