Hi guys, anyone knows why is my anemone doing this? Tank is a year old and the anemone has been alright for the past 6 months.

Have you checked water chemistry?
What type of lighting?
How long and often is the anemone closed?
What type of anemone is it?

Welcome to R2R. :-)

Hi Tahoe61,

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Water chemistry is
Ca 430
Mag 1290
Alk 6 dkh
No3 25
Po4 0.03
Temp 28°C

It used to be the size of a baseball and then it started getting smaller in the past one month. It closes every day before the light goes off for about an hour or so and reopens after the light is off. Haven't moved it since the day it attached itself to the rock 2weeks after I got it.

Lights are XR30W G4 Pro.

It's a pink bubbletip anemone.

First picture was taken a month ago, second picture was in November last year

Boy it was a beautiful anemone.
Have you tried to feed it at all? Try tiny pieces of raw fish, shrimp you can get at the store, the food should not be frozen.
At what percent are you running the LED, that is a ton of light? What is UV set at?

Thank you.
I've been feeding it with raw shrimp once a week and but stopped when the clarkii started feeding it.
I'm running sps ab+ at 75% intensity and UV at 100%.

Try dialing down the UV. I had issue with my BTA with higher UV.

I would try to feed it as you mentioned it's decreasing in size. Once monthly or every other week should be enough.

Many thanks mate.
I'll try bringing UV down to 70% and feed it more.

The only other thing I see is that the alk is low and the nitrate are a bit high. :)

I've added baking soda to bring up the alk.
My nitrates have been at 25ppm since it cycled. Tried bio pellets but it did not work out. Even w/c can't seem to bring it down. Tested on NYOS and Salifert both reads at 25. Was thinking of trying NitraGuard as I've heard many great things about it.

I went the same route with my Nitrates and lastly started with seeded filter media in the sump. That fixed the issue over a year ago, I just change out 10% every 8 weeks.

Hi and welcome

Nice Nem , so is anything new to the tank since he’s been in there ? I note you said you used to feed until the clown started to feed it .... has the clown been recently introduced or have they just recently been home and tenant ? If the latter the nem might just be a little miffed.... those clarki’s can really beat up on a new nem ...in a friendly way of course ......

Hi Sharkbate,

Thanks, the nem has been in the tank approximately 6 months and the clarkii 5 months.
I've been feeding it once a day with shrimp since Friday and he seems to be doing better now.

Great news, maybe he was just hungry ... They are strange creatures !! But awesome to look at .. I’ve a cube full of them .... good luck .
