Help with sump.

I would if I could. No place near me sells them and it was running before with silicone. Maybe after this shipment of corals come in and out of qting....i might install bulkhead but for the time being all I have is silicone

Just weird and lazy by the person who made it
Could also use putty or rtv.

U asked if it should be slanted I think u should make it parallel with the back of the tank.

I would wait for bulkheads to do it right if it was me but I don't know ur situation so do whatever needs to be done.

One pipe is full syphon on is ur secondary and the last will be the emergency the full syphon should have a gate valve on it.

I can't really wait for the bulkheads. Was not thinking on my part and tore down the tank I had to make this sump after i ordered coral. So i kind of screwed myself. So noe just working with what i got.

What do u mean the actual end of the pipes should be about an inch or two under water to help start the full syphon

I don't know it might how far out of the water is it going to be ur going to have to imagine that ur water will be at let's say 800 gallons an hour of ur pipe is an inch above the water that 800 gallons an hour will be spraying water everywhere

Here is a close up of the way I plumbed the Bean Animal in my overflow. I know it's not the same as your but it gives you a visual of the setup. First pipe is full siphon so it is fully submerged. Second pipe is only partially in the water to allow a slow flow to the sump keepi g it quiet. The third pipe is the emergent drain and should be higher then everything else in the box. I hope this help you a little bit mate.. once you get it done you will love it. Mine is almost completely silent. Just a trickle would from in every now and again.

What i mean is the pipes that go into the sump.

Ok, both pipes don't keep up with a mag 9.5.... it has a ball valve after the pump before the tank to minimize flow, so why is it barely open and both pipes won't drain it fast enough?

The object it to make the pipe with the ball valve handle all the water flow
The secondary pipe should be an inch or two higher then this pipe

U raise the water until a syphon forms in the first pipe only no water (or some people like a little bit of water ) should be going down the secondary pipe

Someone attached the web page to this thread on how a bean animal works read it that's the page I used to learn.

It's complicated till you follow the steps then it all makes sense

Also if you didn't submerge the pipes in the sump u might never get the pipe to go full syphon.

And the one that's higher up is in the sump more than the other by an inch... and the elbow is about a half inch higher
