Guys do i really need hermit crabs?? My tank is 40 days and i dont know if it is cycled cause i dont have any test kits because its so expensive. but my yellow tail damsel survived with my water. do i really need to add hermit crabs before buying corals? or another fish??

I use snails for my cleanup crew. I do not have hermit crabs anymore. If I end up with one in my shipment of snails, I put it in my sump. They always seem to eat my snails, which do a better job of cleaning in my opinion.

If a test kit is too expensive how are you gonna buy corals, or fish? Short cuts in this hobby make for dead fish and melty corals.

I like hermits. At around 8bucks for a dozen you can't go wrong. Plus they really do clean. Helps a fresh tank such as yours by helping your biofilter keep up and adjust accordingly.

If you buy a test kit you will know if your tank has cycled. I prefer snails for cuc. As someone else said no shortcuts in this hobby.
