I am getting ready to start pulling the trigger on some items for my DIY custom Sump... (from my old 55g)

I have a 125 Perfecto (Tempered, Cant Drill)

Anyone have input on HOTB overflows or other options for getting my Water to the sump without Drilling.... Brand names and Models would be handy...

TIA.
-Rich

I always had good luck with the Eshopps HOB overflows. Ran one for over a year. It was shut off weekly for water changes and never lost siphon once. Model will depend on the strength of your return pump.

Currently running a Eshopps PF800 on my tank. In August it will be 3 years of flawless operation. Never lost a siphon and started right back up after power failures. They get a bad rap but as long as they are set up right no need to worry.

I would not recommend any HOB overflow. I have seen too many fail and almost had it happen to me a few times back when I used a SeaClear HOB, same design as Eshopps. If there is qny way you can drill the tank that is what I recommend.

Its tempered glass. Not an option

Pf1200 is what I have my eye on. And maybe an eflux return pump since they have a check built in to prevent overflow. I also plan to set up the compartment plumbing in a manner so that the return pump will only have 4 gallons or so on tap at any given time.

The last option is a CPR CS102 Overflow that has an aqua lifter pump built in to guarantee syphon to come back on with the power.

And Good lawwwd skimmers are expensive ;Greedy;Sorry

I ran the nano eshopps hob overflow, second the dirty pump = siphon failure ime.

Also a dc pump like the eflux you were looking at will assist with finding the sweet spot, between flow and a loud gurgling.

I like my CPR HOTB overflow with Toms pump. It was noisy until I added a stand pipe and now nice and quiet.;)

I have the pf1200 right now LOUD. Siphon stops. I have the jebao DC sump pump it's amazing. I have a 75g with 20g sump. The pf1200 is not worth it. As for skimmer reef Octopus 110 int. 200$

I have a PF-1000 on a 75 and it has been perfect. I did make a standpipe for it. I think the 1200 is the same with bigger bulkheads.

You have to understand how it works to get it to work right but it is well made.

I made a gurgle buster that I found on here and my tank is very quiet. It took me a while in my quest for a quiet tank, but I finally got it by adding the RO Regal 150

HOB overflows are fail-safe as long as they are set up correctly......drilling is ideal but if not possible, HOB overflows will work fine. I personally don't like any of the models that use the lifter pumps just because it is another point of failure....just my personal experience. Every tank I have ever ran prior to these last couple of years was with a HOB overflow without any problems.

HOB overflows work just fine.. its all I have used in 30+ years of reefing, I have owned many brands and the eshopps are very nicely made, I just installed one on my new tank. The trick to keeping them running smoothly is to push them to the upper end of there flow rating and you will never lose syphon.. keep your eyes open for sales, I payed $48 for this one delivered to my door :D

@Retro Reefer Eyes are always looking for a deal ;Watching;Peeking;Cyclops

Thanks for the input everyone... I have a friend who runs 11 aquariums at his home, 6 are using Deep Blue HOTB OF's that have a design much like the Eshopps PF series.

He says they have never failed him, in 15 years of using HOTB's
He vouches for them and says "if they are failing you set them up wrong."

Going to start laying out the floor mapping for my 55 to see what I can play with and how... more money flying out my window.
