How do I increase Nitrate?

I have 12 fish in a 75gallon softie reef. I feed frozen food twice/thrice a day yet my nitrate is only 5ppm at max, sometimes almost clear on the Salifert test. I also overfeed Reef Roids once a month. Whats going on?

Aminos, sodium nitrate, small controlled amounts of ammonium chloride, etc.

My preferred method is amino acids, as it does not increase phosphate, doesn't cary any risk of overdose like ammonium chloride, and can even be done via diy method.

If you have a skimmer, put it on a timer. Have it off during the day and on at night.
