My mother had some when I was a little kid and every time she bought some they died under her care.

I guess we do not know how to raise goldfish...any advice would be helpful.

:noidea:

Do you realize this is a saltwater forum.....and goldfish are freshwater?

Anyway, goldfish actually like some salt….albeit not at the approximate 35% we keep our saltwater tanks at. I think I use to put 1 tablespoon per gallon in my goldfish tank, when I had one.

To your question, goldfish are pretty tough. There were times I’d do water changes and use tap water without ridding it of chlorine. But this is a start….use a de-chor on the water you put into the tank. If it is an actual tank with gravel and such, make sure you cycle the tank first before putting in the fish. Once cycled, that tank is good to go. Also include a filtering system on the tank because goldfish tend to be “dirty.”

I had four goldfish in a 75 gallon tank where they lived between 20 to 25 years. So it can be done.

Hello. The biggest thing is don't use a gold fish bowl or a small tank. a 55 gallon tank with house 2, yes two with ease. You will need to a lot of water changes and have one heck of a filter. I have not keep cold water fish in 15 years, but I had some that lived 15 years. IMO they are almost more work than they are worth. I said almost because they are hardy and fun to watch, just dirty little fish. There are lots of forms related to gold fish if this something you really want to get into I'd suggest you do a search and you'll find hours of reading.

Also Welcome to the forum.
