I'm not new to reefing, but clams are definintly not my specialty. I have 2 corcea clams that are 4-5" doing well, and my LFS just got in a beautiful ORA gold maxima for $45. The problem is that it about 2" big. I know that the smaller the clam the more 'stuff' it needs to eat instead of solely relying on photosynthesis for food.

What do you guys think?

I'd buy it in a heartbeat! Clams don't need fed, they just need lots of light and ammonia to be satisfied. I have found with the smaller Maxima's you need to find a spot that they like and let them be, the more you move them or let them move around the more stressed they become and die.

I appreciate all your input. I did get it (didn't hurt i sold enough old equipment to cover that and anything else i wanted there) He is over in my clam corner getting used to the new lights and system. Really a cool looking maxima ill post some picks in a bit. (Have you setup my new vortechs too)

That is cool. My lfs only gets the Ora 2" ones. They are so tiny.

Very nice indeed!

BTW I see you have some sawblade Calluerpa in there, if you are looking for a fish to rid the tank of it I have found that Sailfin Tangs are the only fish that will touch it. My tank used to be over run by it and is spotless now that I have a Sailfin.

Skins you are a saint. Problem is i dont know if I should put a sailfin in my 125g I got alot of rock I think it would be tight. That stuff too out my 55. My fisrt Lavender Tang would eat the stuff as I was setting up the 125g but I listened to a LFS that had 12 tangs in a 400 and they convinced my a Powder Blue wont be too bad as long as I add them all at the same time. yeah right, the great tang massacre of 2011 to two nights and he went back to the store.

I do like Sailfins and my normal LFS gets them in occasionally. that calurpa is nasty and now I know its name.

Also it is about 2 inch, maybe a hair bigger, but I have yet to see a better gold maxima picture so I forked out the $45 bucks.
