That said, @glennf - I'm sure there are some ways you could turn your problem into an advantage. You might try talking to your LFS to see if they'd pay you for frags from your corals. You could also try selling them directly, or setting up a second grow-out tank for the excess.

Or is that what you're already doing - I'm not sure what you meant by "lobbying with the cuttings."

There are a few things you could do to try and curb your growth some:

1) Reduce photoperiod.
2) Reduce calcium level periodically.
3) Reduce available food for teh corals.

And finally, another thing you could do - if you have a local reef club, I'm sure that your clubmates would love the opportunity to clip your corals for you if you let them keep the excess. Just make sure they're not taking too much. =)

I already a 2,5m fragtank filled to the rimm.

I don't like to have strangers at my home bargaining about corals and prices.

I also don't want to spoil the market for professionals and LFS. The LFS are struggling already without the many home fraggers and addict webshops. We need the LFS for our hobby to survive.

When messing with the parameters you might limit growth, but you might also loose more than you bargain for. Lets say: If it aint broke don't fix it ....
I don't feed any of my corals, just the fish.

It's not only about the work, but i also hate the change how the tank look now and after prunning

I’m trying to scale his tank here....what size is it? Honestly you could be a suppler of corals in your area and maybe beyond .

Been watching a YouTuber selling his frags from a 300g tank but you sure have him beat i the shear amount of corals you have.

Sorry but this is kind of strange....Glenn, you are a very known Dutch retailer who invented the so called DSR method.

Good for you, but you are a professional and not an average hobbyist. You don't sell your frags to hobbyists, you distribute them to several different shops in the Netherlands. This is common knowledge in the Dutch reefing community and documented on several Dutch fora.

Maybe you don't intend to, but this post just does not feel sincere....

Correction:
A well know Dutch Reefer > DSR developer > manufacturer > distributor > a professional, but still very passionate about the hobby, a reefer who still shares thoughts and information regarding reeftanks and successes with the community to inspire other reefers. (No retailer)

Yes...i also supply a few LFS with the prunings.
These are well know facts in holland.

Why only share my thought and succeses in holland? Now the dutch reefers are well educated why not also share it with the rest of the world.
The onces who have something to say/share should not keept it all to themselves. It's their duty to share knowledge and inspire others.
I have choosen to do that in a well structured manner. Why help a few when you can help a crowd with the same effort spend?

In holland many reefers have this "problem".
Many just throw their pruning into the bin, because they can't get rid off these.

By sharing thoughts we might come up with a practical and executable solutions which might benefit all parties involved.

Shipping, Politics, Regulations, Cites and too many paperwork are getting in the way to do something meaningfull.

However if the reefing community get more succesfull and find a structural way to recycle corals using the proffesional channels this will make sustainable reefing a fact.

Now most coral which are going to the LFS are no high grade, because reefers try to sell the highgrade themselves for the full price. Only the surplus that can't be sold turn up at the LFS.

LFS might play a central role with sustainability.
They can host the corals for an exchange fee. Just enough to get things going and be the centre of gravity for reefers. All parties might benefit from a symbiotic existency with LFS and reefers.
We need to realise the running a LFS cost money, so does running a clubhouse.

I always look at things possitively, my intentions are not to offend anyone. So i don't expect others to treat me otherwise. Those who do, have a problem with themselves which need fixing. I can't help them with that though[emoji17]. Just sharing my thoughs which seems very strange to the onces who don't know me yet. In a few years we can all laugh about the fuzz, because by than most look at things another way, hopefully more succesfull and possitively...[emoji6]

Perhaps you could research some of the groups attempting to restock the coral reefs? Maybe I'm crazy, but never know if any are near by or willing to pay for you to send them large amounts of frags.

Tank is beautiful btw, I'm sure the pruning requires a lot of work and as you mentioned, keeping it looking good to the eye can't be easy.
