I am cycling my 15-gallon reef tank. I have a 15-gallon aqueon column tank along with an aquaclear 50 HOB filter along with a 240gph powerhead and 12 pounds of dry rock and 5 lbs of live sand. I have been cycling for about 3 weeks now, but I think I am just going to keep cycling for another month just because in 2 weeks I am leaving for a 2-week vacation so it's just convenient. I think I made a real rookie mistake by not dipping my rocks! Today I was looking at the sand bed and I noticed what looks to be like small pieces of the dry rock on the sand bed (see pics attached). I tried to vacuum them out with my siphon vacuum, but every time I try to it feels like I'm going to suck up a bunch of sand so i kink the hose, and really nothing gets vacuumed out except a bit of sand. If anyone has any tips to effectively vacuum the sand bed that would be much appreciated. Also please help as I don't know what to do about the dry rock pieces on the sand bed. Thanks!

Can't see the pictures, but if you have a dip net you might scoop up the sand and dry rock and hopefully the sand will go through the net and the rock pieces won'T?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Looks like flakes or particles and should be of no harm

I really wouldn't worry about a few little pieces of chipped rock in the sand. If it bothers you that much, you should get some aquarium tongs to pick them out.
