I need help ID

Hi I would like to know if any one has encountered this issue I have? I'm going to tag @twilliard to see if he can help shine some light on this. this is a slime like clear mucus it only appears in my sump where water isn't turbulent at all. Its almost like a shield, if I drip water over it, it will bead up and wont go through it as you can see in the first pic. I can scoop it out and in the matter of 2 weeks or so it will come right back I have a video of it but I don't know how to upload it here. please and thank you in anticipation.

It almost appears to be some sort of bacterial mat/buildup. Are you running biopellets in the system?

If you pinch it between your fingers , is it like mucous slime? Or does it have some structure.

Are you carbon dosing? It does look like a bacterial colony, but just slightly like sponge.

Yes if i pinch it it does have a mucus slimy consistency, and i did try dosing vodka early this year but didnt last long i stopped it about a month of dosing it was stopped in February.

Alrighty then, I was thinking it may be the film that comes off of them amassing in that low flow area of your sump/refugium.

I had the exact same mucus like substance that no matter how many times I would clean it out and remove it, it would come right back. Really started when I started using Red Sea po4 No3 sups. The solution was moving my uv bulb to the last chamber in the sump which is the only place where this was building up and overnight it was gone. It's a bacterial buildup. I got a 10w uv from amazon that I run on the last chamber 24/7 and it works well.

Thank you to all of you with the info.. now does anyone know where or whom can i send a sample to get tested to know exactly what type of bacteria is it since i am having other issue in my tank like spirulina and i have coral discoloration by the way i have a 125g DT SPS only tank

Sounds to me like you may have overdone it with the vodka dosing and you is have a super spike in bacteria colonization and it's probably sterilized you're tank, hence the coloration decline. Like I said I get an open uv bulb for the sump and balance your tank again. Feed away and skim wet. Water changes are important too. It will go away.
