I am planning my new Cube tank, which will be 600mm x 600mm x450mm (24" x 24" x18") I am looking for ideas on the best layout for the sump, if you can assist with dimensions it would help alot. I need the followinf in the Sump.

1. water in from display section
2. skimmer section
3. refugium
4. return section
5. ATO

All assistance and advice will be greatly apreciated.

I had a 24x24x20 cube before I built a bigger tank. I had a 30g sump/refugium. I'm still using that sump/refugium on the new 90g (36x30x20) tank.

I just split it in two. About 25 to 30% for the return pump AND skimmer and the big side for filter socks and the refugium. It's just not that hard to do.

This is the 40g cube that it was under.

The new 90g tank is really just getting settled in. I'm still dealing with some algae issues because I lost all my macro algae during the 4 week change over. The 16g tank at the right is NOT hooked into the sump. It's a Rock Flower Anemone breeding tank. There are now 34 RFAs in it and over the last 20 days we have had 3 different spawns. Two nems on 3/27, two more on 4/3 and one more (the biggest nem in the tank) on 3/14. Now we are watching for babies!

I have one under a 24"x24" cube. It is 19x19 inches. Rear left first chamber 11x11 has room for a filter sock in the corner (I do not use any socks) and protein skimmer. Front 8x19 second chamber is for a fuge (the whole front), but I don't put anything in there. Rear right 8x11 is the final chamber for return pump and if you have an ATO sensor. I don't know if it is ideal, but it came with the tank and stand. It fits a normal skimmer and a normal return pump, so it works for me. It saves some room in the front and sides for a decent amount of gear, but I do have to run a Calcium Reactor outside of the tank. I have no reason to replace it.

I made a pretty big cube sump for my 24" cube tank. I think I made it 20"×22" to basically fill the entire space in my stand. I wasnt worried about additional equipment, I added a cabinet beside the tank for my dosing pump and ATO and fresh salt containers are large brute bins beside the tank under the crawlspace. I made the refugium in the first compartment, no sock holders but if I wanted to put a sock on for a day I just ziptie one on the primary drain pipe. Then it is skimmer section and then return section. Simple and easy really.
