I've had my gem tang over 9 months yesterday he was perfectly fine and today hes no where to be seen can't find him at all is this normal or hes pretty much gone?

By the way I have not added any new fish and my parameters are good

Is there a cover on tank? If not. search floor around tank.
In the tank, try shining a Bright flashlight through nooks and crannies which should both allow you to spot it and startle it if it is just hiding
Hopefully its ok and just hiding

Well I haven't done anything different for the last few months hes been eating every day mysis and nori leaves no weird signs that could of alarmed me

Don’t really think we can help you with little information.

I would try to move some rocks to be sure it is not just hiding or stuck in the rocks. Check your overflow/sump to see if he is not in there.

If after doing this, you are sure he is not in the tank anymore. Check if it did not just jump out of the tank (rimless)... Any fish that is suddenly scared by something can be assumed to jump (even tangs).

Did you see any special behaviour before he disappeared? Did it eat well? Still having good colour? What do you fees the tang and how often?

He eats every day and my rock work is pretty complex hes big couldn't fit through the over flow box ,lid is a clearview lid and if hes in there its most likely between some rocks

Well no sign of him at all he was the biggest fish I had when I first got him he was the smallest this really sucks its not like they cost 50$

That does suck, I'm sorry you're going through this.

I wouldn't go moving rocks around and stressing your tank out just to find him. If you think you might try to remove and treat him, that's a different story.

If you've truly not changed anything and there were no behavioral or visible clues, I don't think there's much anyone can say by way of an explanation.

Hoping he is just hiding.

have you recently changed lights or bulbs? This usually causes many fish to retreat into hiding for a couple of days.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but did you check the area around and behind the tank or in the overflow boxes? I know you said you have a top and there’s no way it could jump out or fit into the overflow box, but things have happened with our tanks that are 100% unexplainable (fish jumping thru a 1” round hole in a top to land on the floor, fish somehow making its way to the sump, etc)

No same lights and since I've had him from day one he never would hide at all

Fish that suddenly disappears after being out and active is not a good sign obviously. Was it showing any signs of malnutrition? Fish with underlying disease, even if observably eating, can lose weight. Other than having jumped, that’d be my guess for a fish you’ve had for 9 months.

I checked the overflow box and nothing and no he eats every day mysis and nori leaf no signs of anything he nips on rocks all day you think he could of nipped on a coral and could of got sick ?

This was yesterday he was as normal as always

Wow that’s a expensive lost. He’s probably wedged in the back somewhere.

Alien abduction?

I mean if it’s missing check the obvious around the tank on the floor, in the overflow, or in the rocks somewhere.

it’s there somewhere, dead or alive.

Did your dog eat it? I read a post earlier about a wrasse that went carpet surfing and before the fellow could pick it up. His dog swallowed it.
