Not true. Totally worth using. Find one that is compatible with your phone. (Don't think I've heard complaints about the one @saltyfilmfolks recommended quite a while back to me called "galactica luxmeter" but I always suggest taking some readings of a known-quantity like a bright sunny day around noon to test it.)
