Is Chaeto overrated?

I have recently removed the macroalgae from my sump. I'm noticing a cleaner sump when doing water changes and my sps growth is still good. I'm not having any nuisance algae issues in the display. My tests don't show any nitrate or phosphate. My chaeto always had a lot of detritus in it and I was wondering if the positive outweighed the negative.

Has anyone done anything similar and noticed any effects good or bad?

every week i do water changes but before that i move chaeto arround and pull it apart and trim once a month to keep it clean
