Is my toadstool dead?

In the store it looked great, when placed in my tank 2 weeks ago the polyps came out and also looked great. Then the next day the polyps didn't come out and stayed that way for 2 weeks. It still isn't attached to a rock, just kind of sitting there and the stalk looks flaky. Should i leave it be or take it out?

I would do a water change or two and try to run some carbon. something in there that it doesnt like but i have had a few toadstools come back from that state before.

if shiny is a molt stage,looks pretty firm ,best not to move in molt,watch for decay /turning to mush,at this point wait out,molting is a growing stage ,best wishes

So i put my toadstool into my other tank (5g pico) and it literally opened up in a few hours after being closed for 2 weeks in my brand new 20g, what gives? What could be so bad in my 20g which is brand new BTW that it doesn't want to open?

I have two toadstools pretty close to each other. One is always open and happy and the other has been closed for over a month. I have no idea why one is doing so well and the other is not. It doesn't look like it's dying it just hasn't been opening. I also have a third large toadstool that opens and closes every other day. Very weird and sporadic behavior.

Tell us about the 20 gallon. You called it brand new, how new is brand new? And how did you cycle your tank? And what are your tank parameters?

I did a Dr.Tims ammonia cycle that finished approximately 2-2.5 weeks ago. I added the coral 2 days after cycle was done.

The parameters of the tank are 8 alk, 480 cal, 0 ammonia and nitrite, temp is 78, 1.025 salinity.
