Is this a sponge?

So, I’ve been seeing small sponges pop up in my tank (I haven’t bought one and tried to avoid them at all costs), when doing a water change today I found the what I’m guessing to be mother colony growing at the bottom of my sump, can anyone identify what this is?

I’m guessing it’s good that the tank can grow sponges? Just the strange thing is it can’t grow SPS yet sponges grow like wildfires
