Was he in the bag for longer than 30 mins? Did you buy him locally or online?

I got him from from a lfs that was about an hour away from my house.

Ammonia shouldn't have built-up in the bag after just an hour...

This may have not been sufficient to acclimate him if there was a large difference in salinity.

I am not sure what the store's salinity is.

But i keep my salinity at around 1.023

Clown gobies are also notorious for starving themselves to death. Did you see him eat at the store? Not that it's likely that he would have.

If he is starving the stress may have just pushed him over the edge with or without not enough acclimation. I guess I'm saying that there may be several contributing factors.

You should always ask if they will feed whatever fish you are interested in buying before you purchase. Any reputable LFS will do that for you without a problem.

I dont think it was ich because it has been a week and all my fish have no symptoms and they are eating well.
