No other signs on any part of the yellow tang - fins are clear, but you can make out two white spots just above the lateral line, towards the rear of the fish. I am used to seeing ich show up on fins first, so am not sure what this is?

Ich appears as a multitude of smaller white dots. Those almost look like sores or scars to me. I would still put it on some sort of medication and feed it some good food to help its immune system.

Looks to me like Lymphocystis.

Tang is just coming out of about 30 days of QT, no meds used, and I just noticed those white spots in the last couple of days. I have been soaking pellets in Selcon since QT started. Have been supplementing the pellets with spirulina brine. Have offered nori, but not interested, but it does gobble up blackworms.

As far as treating those spots, any specific advice? If it is lympho, it should go away on its own, right? At this point, is watchful waiting the best course of action?

If it is it lympho it does go on its own . I have had it on a couple of tangs and a clown in tanks I have kept.
Both tangs and clown made a full recovery and the lympho disappeared.

I would offer nori, high quality frozen, keep soaking food in Selcon, etc. and just see what happens with it for right now.
