So my green coral was doing good after a few days of getting used to my tank and now it hasn’t opened for like 2 weeks. Had it for about a month now. I thought it was a green Kenya tree but I was told it might be some sinulara. Idk I like the coral

moved him around the tank and I noticed there’s red/brown hairs floating with the current. Yesterday I took the frag out to examine the hairs but they go spooked and one of them was stuck to the coral and I wasn’t able to pull on it or anything. Even when the coral was in a bowl of tank water. What is this and is it why my coral won’t open anymore?

It almost looks like a mini brittle starfish leg in the pics.
I have videos and this thing looks 10000% alive I just dont know what it is and if thats keeping my coral from opening up again. I put it on my "mad coral station" which is a rock where I leave stubborn corals until they open up and ever since i put this coral there my (previously stubborn) toadstool wont even open anymore. Could it be some form of aiptasia? The red long hairs seem to like to be on the coral, its in a high flow area and you can see the hairs struggling to be on the coral but when the lights go off theyre not there anymore.

Id also like to note that theres some kind of crevasse between the coral and the frag, I full blast basted it with a syringe that comes with testing kits and only copepods came out of there. I have a feeling like theres something living in that crevasse.

Note that I did not dip this coral in anything. Ive been successful injecting aiptasia with peroxyde using a syringe and super gluing anything that looks like vermetid snails on my frags, only doing it to whats visible after very close inspection. would it be recommended to dip the bottom of the coral in pure peroxyde? By bottom I mean the crevasse which is between where the coral is glued to the frag holder thing you put in egg crates things

theres more than 5 red hairs on this but less than 12 id say so its either not a brittle starfish or theres 2 living inside the hole

It's hard to say what it is by the pictures...

You can dip the coral, but I wouldn't use peroxide...some corals really hate it and it destroys them. I have had success with dipping LPS, but any SPS have melted.

Yes on dip. I suspect detritus or other worm

Another good possibility is spaghetti worms. Google them. If the "legs" are coming up out of the sand or a crevice in a rock that's likely what they are.

Could be dinos. Can you get a bit of the string and look at it under microscope?
I thought that myself but rarely are they single strand
Just show’s, this hobby has many possibilities

No kidding. Mine had strings like that. Pulled out and looked. It was, dang I forgot which it was because I had them in two tanks and they were two different species. I wish I could have gotten pics from the microscope. Next time I will try.
