Hey all, just getting my fist SW tank, a JBJ 30, ready for something alive besides some rocks. Just wondering, I bought it used and have no docs for it, are the 'refugium?' columns good for anything other than the heater? Thinking about a small skimmer (not sure if it is needed) but a true refugium has more going on. Anyone doing anything more with that area?

TIA, Jay

Some throw some Chaeto back there. I wouldn't rely on it as a full on fuge though

Thanks for the reply, and the info, ill have to research the chaeto. guess I'm mostly looking for any edge I can get, little paranoid about this whole SW thing!

I added a Tunze skimmer to mine and it does a pretty good job, it fits in the middle chamber. Also might want to ditching the sponge and using some filter pads, I am currently using one for Nitrates and phosphates. they come in a big sheet and you just cut them the samze as the sponge in the filter boxes. I agree with Shores805 that I wouldn't really count on Chaeto doing much back there.

I've added a little reef octopus hang on into one of the filter chambers. Although I'm not overly impressed with how it is working...

I'm running my 9002 in the overflow chamber. Moved the magnet/cords to the back and it's a perfect fit.
