I'm going to upgrade from my JBJ 28 nano cube soon. I'm really excited and have been planning this for a while, I plan on setting it up within the next couple of weeks. Let me know what you all think or if you have any suggestions.

Equipment
-JBJ 45 Flat Panel+Stand
-Ecotech Radion XR30 Pro+Diffuser
-Ecotech MP10
-2 Ecotech Versas (when it finally gets released) (one for dosing and one for ato)
-Tunze 9004 Skimmer?
-Dry LifeRock
-CarbiSea Black Sand
-JumpGuard Pro

Livestock
-Black Storm+Frostbite Clowns
-Twinspot Hogfish
-Randall's Goby
-Royal Gramma?
-A Couple Fairy Wrasses?

Not sure about what wrasses. I've looked at the Cirrhilabrus Complexes chart and noticed some discrepancies when dealing with required tank sizes.

How long is rhe tank? Fairies need some room to swoop and dive.

Equipment looks good. Not a huge fan if the black sand, but to each their own.

Clowns, goby and gramma all sound good. Unfamiliar with hogfish so whatever floats your boat. I would look at flasher wrasses for this size tank. I think that fairy wrasse compatibility chart only has 2 listed for a <50 gallon and even then most people would turn you toward flashers. Don’t forget your Halichoeres wrasses (sand bed divers) and of course a blenny.

Looks like it’s 26.5”L x 22”W x 19”H

No i would shy away from fairies...and probably the flashers as well they get spooked easily and many perish from spinal injuries after hitting the glass.

This has two groups that require at least 40 gallons but when you cross reference it with other websites like liveaquaria they have bigger requirements listed, so that’s why I wasn’t sure. I’m more a fan of fairies over the flashers, so I didn’t know if there was a couple species that would work. The only problem I see with Halichoeres is that they’re typically listed as not reef safe cause they pick at some corals and can be more aggressive.

Any stocking ideas of something cool I could potentially add if I don’t go with flashers or fairies?

I like firefish, cardinals, and id check and see how much space the leopard wrasses require. Need sand but not as flighty.

I was thinking about a leopard but I know they’re typically listed as “expert only” on liveaquaria so that’s why I was shying away from them.

If you can find one local eating already than theyre not so hard.

That’s the thing though, I work at a LFS so anything I get would be directly from the wholesaler and I’d have to quarantine myself so I wouldn’t know.

Ive got 2 both came from online supplier. Both were qtd with prazi and metro for worms. And then released. Both ate well from the start and still are happy to this day.

Maybe some pick at corals but really they are listed at reef caution because they will take down your inverts. Looking at the dimensions I do not really think a Halichoeres would have enough swimming length. For some reason I thought it was a 36” long but must be thinking of the 65.

Oh yeah, nope the 45 is only 26.5". Any suggestions on something cool besides wrasses I could add?

May want to check out CJ's Aquariums skimmer recommendation on his jbj 65. It may fit your tank. I did not have much luck with the 9004. To me it is a bit weak. Maybe the DC one is better. I have the AC one.

I’ll have to keep myself posted on his channel. I noticed he was running the 9004 in his 45 build so I might reach out and see how he liked it. It has good reviews on BRS but it seems like people either love it or hate it.

Maybe... Might be worried about it picking off the clowns since they’ll be small when I get them but maybe down the road.
